iPhone: Countdown
Check other articles in the series...Just 2 weeks left for the release of the iPhone. We have analyzed the eco-system in a fair bit of detail thus far.
Today, I read a great review by an Australian of Nokia’s competing product, N95 which is not “a mere cell phone but a true multitasking, handheld, Internet connected multimedia computer that does a lot of things and does them all well.” A slightly less enthusiastic, but also positive review is here. Nokia doesn’t seem to be asleep at the wheels …
LG’s Prada, as Verizon’s choice for the iPhone killer, is receiving less enthusiastic response.
Apple insider friends say that the iPhone is a really nice product, and first and foremost a very nice phone. The battery life issue, however, seems to be of concern to many.
I guess, we will find out soon enough!

I’m not sure my reviews, to date, have been all that positive, to be honest. In my week with an N95 I’ve found it a crashy user interface disaster zone - though I’ve also enjoyed using it partly because of that. Some of the implementation is bordering on the baroque, and it’s surprisingly good fun trying to think like an N95. It’s not quite like anything else.
“…does lots of things and does them all well”? Perhaps. My guess at this stage is that the iPhone is going to redefine what ‘does things well’ means in a mobile phone. It’ll be interesting to see.
Unquestionably true. Apple’s ability to raise the bar on user experience is a huge blessing for the industry.
