Video iPod: Early Validation

Monday, October 31, 2005 | 1 comment

iTunes sold 1 Million+ videos since it added video capabilities on Oct. 12, allowing customers to purchase music videos, short films and episodes of certain television shows for viewing on their iPod or computer, for $1.99 each. Popular downloads include music videos from Michael Jackson, Fatboy Slim and Kanye West, as well as episodes of ABC’s hit TV shows “Lost” and “Desperate Housewives.”

Not bad at all. 18 days in business. Couple of Million dollars in revenues. Decent beginnings!

Here is one thing I would do ASAP, if I were Apple:

Do deals with all TV-Makers to embed wireless video receiver technology compatible with an embedded video transmission technology that I would embed in the Video iPod.

Imagine, if a differentiating factor for TVs could be that they are iPod compatible?? Talk about applying the Apple magic to yet another commodity business …

Warning: High quality wireless video is difficult technology!

ipod already has videoout feature for tv. The quality of video from ipod is not great when viewed in tv.
I don’t see the need for a wireless interface between ipod and tv. But I know that there are new standards of wireless technology coming up to address that.
