Microsoft Gets FaceBook

Friday, August 25, 2006 | No comments

Google got MySpace, but Microsoft gets FaceBook.

We know why Microsoft went after FaceBook, but why did FaceBook say yes?

Facebook COO Owen Van Natta says that Microsoft’s technology and approach are a better fit because they are newer to online advertising than Google and Yahoo and its technology doesn’t have to be “retrofitted” to social-networking sites like Facebook.

Is it really true? Or is it the huge pile of cash sitting around at Microsoft, some of which was dangled in front of Facebook’s nose?

Let me guess. A big check from Microsoft would go on the revenue line of Facebook, enough to fetch the Billions they are hoping for in valuation.

But who would buy them? Microsoft? Good little lever they just planted into the negotiation!
