Job Search Engine Indeed CEO Paul Forster (Part 3)

Posted on Thursday, Jul 12th 2007

SM: What are your top target segments? PF: As a comprehensive search engine for jobs, Indeed.com isn’t targeting particular segments. We’re covering all jobs in all fields. Having said that, we do have a disproportionate number of web-savvy, early-adopter types who have discovered the beauty of comprehensive job search.

SM: How did you penetrate the market and get early traction? PF: We were fortunate in having a lot of discussion about Indeed in the media and on blogs. That early exposure brought our initial traffic which then grew exponentially through word-of-mouth.

SM: What stage are you at now? Revenue? Profitability? Traffic? PF: We’re growing very fast with over 3.3 million unique visitors and 60 million page views in June. We have hundreds of advertising clients. We don’t disclose our revenue, but it is also growing fast.

SM: How did you finance the different phases of the company? PF: The company was originally funded by the founders and we’ve raised one institutional round of $5m in 2005 from The New York Times Company, Union Square Ventures and Allen & Company. We have representatives from The New York Times and Union Square Ventures on our Board and all three investors have played key roles in the development of the company.
