Making SMEs Run Smoothly: René Lacerte’s Cashview (Part 6)

Posted on Saturday, Nov 3rd 2007

SM: Do you have Cashview integrated with QuickBooks?

RL: It is integrated with both QuickBooks desktop software and their online software. We also do general entries for other accounting applications and we will continue to do integration with other accounting applications as we grow.

SM: What is the size of the businesses that use this technology?

RL: We have companies as small as zero employees and companies as large as a couple of hundred employees.

If you don’t like paper, but think you should be able to have paper at your fingertips, then you should use our product. The bigger companies have a challenge which is more related to the accounting system they are using. If they are not using QuickBooks, we do not integrate with them, at the moment. We will solve that over time.

For Cashview, one of the ways I look at the business differently than I did with PayCycle, is that I really want us to say that a third of the business is really small, a third of the business is medium, and a third of the business is large. I do not want us to be as constrained by saying we only going after the under-20 employee businesses. Part of the reason is that the revenue from larger companies can help us afford to go after the smaller companies.

SM: True, but the work flows are substantially different in the larger companies.

RL: It depends on how large we are talking about. Our experience so far is that the way we are doing our work flow allows any of the companies we are talking about to use Cashview. I think it is clear that companies such as IBM have very set and clear procedures, and we are not the right solution. But we could serve 500 employee companies.

SM: Would you say your definition of a large company is 500 to 1,000 employees?

RL: It is hard for me to say, but I would say probably up to 5,000 is something I would like to think about. Right now I am only thinking up to 500, but long term I do not want us to be constrained to 500.
