SM: How much philanthropy money have you raised so far for Reasoning Mind?

AK: Overall, we are funded by 70 donors. We have generated huge support from both individuals and private foundations. In total we have raised just over $12 million, plus in-kind contributions such as Oracle giving us free database support.

Now we are taking it to the next level. We have gotten the state of Texas interested in the project, and the governor of Texas has endorsed the program. He visited one of our schools and was blown away by what he saw. We are really looking forward to a product public/private partnership between us and the state of Texas. We are looking forward to scaling out the program and bringing it to more Texas students.

SM: How does the teachers’ union feel about it?

AK: One of our biggest supporters is the president of the Houston Federation of Teachers. They feel good about it because they realize that Reasoning Mind is not just a good program for students but a very powerful program for teachers. So far, the teachers who have used it love it. We enjoy a 94% approval rating from teachers which means that 94% who teach with Reasoning Mind would rather continue to teach with it rather than teach without it.

SM: If you were to get connected with a channel that could roll out Reasoning Mind in a broader capacity, could your system handle the load?

AK: I think it could. We have written some letters to the federal government suggesting a significant, fast and very sizeable rollout to other states. We are ready, but the challenge is scaling the support that we offer to teachers. Not only do we train teachers, but we support them on campus with bi-weekly visits. This job is done by the Implementation Department at Reasoning Mind, and that department will be growing exponentially in the next year. We can really grow exponentially, if necessary.
