Wow, Argentina completely outclassed Mexico today, and Germany did the same with England!
The quarterfinal match coming up brings back memories of one of my favorite games ever: the 1986 Mexico World Cup final, which Argentina won 3–2. José Brown and Jorge Valdano scored in the first half to put Argentina up 2–0. West Germany then staged a fantastic comeback. Rummenigge scored in the 74th minute, and six minutes later Rudi Völler buried the equalizer. With seven minutes remaining, a pass from Maradona gave Jorge Burruchaga the winner for Argentina.
I supported Argentina, then. I support Argentina, now. Don’t cry for me, Argentina … the truth is, I never left you.
PS: They really need to get going with some video replay technology. Both games saw some rather embarrassing refereeing.
