Sramana Mitra: Can you mention some clients specific to the media industry?
David DeWolf: In addition to PBS, we have a company called Grab Networks. They are a very innovative company that was doing media sharing online. Acetrax, which is a European equivalent of Netflix and was acquired by Sky TV, is a client of ours. We did a significant video on-demand type product development. Black Arrow is another innovative company and a fast growing mid-market firm that specializes in the media and in mobile advertising.
SM: Have you also worked with newspapers?
DD: We have done some work in the past with Time magazine. If you are talking about newspapers specifically, we have not.
SM: I am mentioning it because it is an industry that is going through massive changes at the moment. So you basically work for $100 million to $2 billion media companies, and you do innovation projects for them. Where are your operations?
DD: We have operations throughout the globe and are headquartered in northern Virginia. We have delivery centers in Eastern Europe and in India, as well as sales offices in London, Boston, and New York.
SM: Where in Eastern Europe is your development center?
DD: In Romania. We have two centers there: one in Cluj-Napoca and one in Timisoara.
SM: What about India?
DD: We are in Noida, which is right outside of Delhi.
SM: What is the size of each of those centers?
DD: We have 250 employees in Romania and 350 in Noida.
SM: What dynamics are you experiencing in Eastern Europe and India versus talent, attrition, and others?
DD: As a whole, talent is always the question. What we are finding is that by working on the innovation side of the technology industry, by working with companies to help them grow, and by being able to create some of the most innovative products, we are able to attract some of the best of the best. We have found that at the end of the day, what technologists are really looking for is to work on cool, innovative technologies.
By being on the front end of that and by being associated with some of the award-winning products we have been part of, working with innovative technologies and being on the cutting edge of how you leverage user experience to monetize information and data, we have been able to attract the talent we need. Likewise, it is also a very competitive market. We have to continue to invest in our people and pay attention to ensure that we are the employer of choice. Employees, especially in many of these up-and-coming markets, are not just looking for a job. They are looking for something that fulfills them, a company they can believe in, and a chance to work with other bright people in many cases.
