Competing with Box and Dropbox: Soonr Co-Founder and CTO Steven Boye (Part 7)

Sramana Mitra: When you win big deals with enterprise customers, what is it that allows you to win these deals?

Steven Boye: It is typically the quality of our products. Everybody that we compete with, they are currently Dropbox or Box users. Most of them are. For some reason, they like our solution better.

Sramana Mitra: Do you know why?

Steven Boye: Soonr wins business because we have the most powerful mobile file sync-and-share experience available: smart selective sync that allow users to take entire folders or subfolders on-the-go; full online or full offline mode; integrated document editing and annotation with built-in MDM/DLP security features such as remote wipe; and no additional software needed.

We also offer the best user experience around, with granular access and security policies enforceable at the user, content, and device levels and jurisdictional data centers to help ensure data privacy. Against Dropbox, Box, Google, or other cloud-only providers, Soonr supports both cloud and hybrid so that companies can integrate on-premise file servers.

Sramana Mitra: Where are things now? Where are you at in terms of revenue or growth rate?

Steven Boye: In the last few years, we have focused a lot on the enterprise solutions. What we’ve done is we switched strategy to a point where we push our own brand now. If you go to our website, you’ll see that now you can buy our enterprise solution. We push that a lot to software distributors in Europe, Australia, North America, and South America. We have been seeing 100% year on year growth rate on that product. One of our strengths and winning points is that we do guarantee regional storage of data. If you are in Australia and you have an account, you can be absolutely guaranteed that your data will stay in Australia. If you are in Denmark, your data will stay in Denmark.

We’re building these regional data centers where we have software distributors that can build and push our solution. Our channel today is a lot different from going through a few telcos with white labels. We still have that as a legacy business but our main strategy is to go with the Soonr brand. We go with regional location of data where we guarantee that data doesn’t move outside of legal boundaries. We go to software distributors and MSP, down to agency teams. Those are the three-level tiers that we sell through today. That is where our success and growth is based on.

Sramana Mitra: Is there anything else you want to share?

Steven Boye: I think that probably covers most of it.

Sramana Mitra: Terrific. Thank you for your time.
