Email security and the future of email is our topic of conversation in this interview. Very intersting discussion on email marketing as well.
Sramana Mitra: Let’s start with a bit of background about Vade Retro. Tell us about the company. Tell us a bit about yourself.
Georges Lotigier: I am a serial entrepreneur. We were two associates. Together, we have created about 10 different companies. Unfortunately, my associate left two years ago. I’m the President and CEO. I manage three companies now and Vade Retro is one of them. We have founded companies in IT, mainly in security.
Sramana Mitra: Where are you located?
Georges Lotigier: Our headquarters is in Hem, France.
Sramana Mitra: The customer base? It it primarily European?
Georges Lotigier: For Vade Retro, it’s 70% European and 30% the rest of the world. Vade Retro had developed an email filter for security and classification. The technology has existed for 10 years. Our R&D started 10 years ago. The company is five years old. For the past two years, we’ve started focusing on a wider international strategy. We’ve created one daughter company in San Francisco. In San Francisco, we have the product management, marketing, business development, and innovation management teams. We also have offices in Hong Kong and Montreal for technical support. We cover 235 million mailboxes. We classify emails for them in 76 countries. As I’ve said, 70% are in Europe and 30% in the rest of the world. We are strong in Japan and, in general, Asia. We have more than 2,000 customers.
Sramana Mitra: These are enterprise customers?
Georges Lotigier: We have three different types of customers and it’s a third each. One third is ISPs. These are large ISPs around the world. We are not in the USA today for ISPs. The biggest is the French global ISP called Orange.
The second segment is OEM. We sell technology to OEM customers. These are companies involved in security in general like our last OEM deal with Cisco. We also sell to anti-virus companies such as Dr Web.
The third segment, in terms of money, is the corporate market. We are more in the mid-market. However, we do have large enterprises. We provide complete solution for them. We provide the filtering engine through a cloud service or gateway for the corporate market, and we complete the solution with a lot of tools to manage, for example, several domain names. It’s a complete solution for the email filtering management.
