Sramana Mitra: Can you help put some of the other players and the ecosystem map in view a bit? I’m still looking for the ecosystem map.

Mike Potts: Let me shed a little bit of light on what we’re doing. We really are the lights of the network using the electricity, which is the metadata coming off of switches, routers, and firewalls. What we’re able to do is provide instant visibility and also be able to detect when behavior patterns and network traffic begins to change. We’re providing a different level of security than what other providers have been able to provide up to this point. It plays into this management adage that unless you can measure, you can’t manage it. In security, if you can’t see it, you can’t secure it. We’re providing the eyes and ears to the network.

From an ecosystem point of view, with a partner like Cisco, we’re able to take the metadata which is known as net flow and turn the network into a sensor. We’re also integrated with their Cyber Threat Defense system which incorporates another product that they have in their portfolio called Identity Service Engine that gives us more granularity on the devices on that network and who’s behind the device. We can detect the user on how he/she is logged, where they’re at, and what they’re doing. We’re also getting visibility and context from proxy servers. We have relationships with McAfee for integrating their proxy data. It gives us visibility on the network traffic. We have partnerships with other companies including ArcSight.

Sramana Mitra: Would Tipping Point be a direct competitor to what you do?

Mike Potts: In fact, no. HP and Cisco are some of our largest customers. I can publicly talk about them because we have use case scenarios on both of them on our website. We do partner with them. We complement their IDS/IPS technologies and firewall technologies.

Sramana Mitra: You said you have about 700 customers?

Mike Potts: That’s right.
