Sramana Mitra: Switching topics, can you talk about open problems that you recommend entrepreneurs ought to be working on that you’re hearing from customers or you’re observing?
Andrew McLennan: That’s a tough one. I’m very focused on what I do. However if I speak outside of my experience, I think wearables is going to be the new frontier. That area, whether it’s software or hardware, is probably the hottest place for entrepreneurs to be.
Quite honestly, if I wasn’t doing what I’m doing, I would probably focus on either creating a wearable device or create something that sits on someone else’s device to add a new functionality. Consumers are intrigued by it. VCs see the financials for it. There’s money there. There have been some very high profile successes. I wouldn’t worry too much about security. Your job is to innovate and create. Our job is to protect innovation. That’s how we see it.
Sramana Mitra: Before we conclude, tell me a little bit about your company. Where is it based? What size of a company are you? Are you a venture-funded company? Just a little bit more about the company itself.
Andrew McLennan: This was a startup in Scotland that began in 2008. In 2014, after a bunch of VC investments, we were acquired by a French public company called Inside Secure. Inside is multinational. It has bases in US, Europe, and Asia. We have a wide reach all over the world. Our revenue is north of $100 million. We have about 350 people worldwide right now.
Sramana Mitra: Great! Thank you for your time.
