Thought Leaders in Mobile and Social: Josh Koppel, Founder of ScrollMotion (Part 3)

Sramana Mitra: If you would like to present any other use case or scenario, we could do that.

Josh Koppel: The last one is something that we recently just did for GM. GM has just launched a car called the Bolt. It’s a hugely exciting project because it’s the first $30,000 fully electric car. GM basically beat Tesla to the marketplace, which is a huge deal for GM. The problem is that it’s coming out in seven months. The four models they have are touring around the auto show. We were able to take assets that their agency had built to do a 3D VR of the interior of the car.

Now at the car show, people can not only look at the car but they can actually look inside it without really going inside it. This is a thing that was built in weeks, which is very rare for creating highly interactive content. It has just been a hugely successful thing for GM. It’s a brand new arrow in their quiver. That’s really what this is for. This is for having meaningful conversations with customers where you could use the iPad as the sales assistant. You really want to have face-to-face conversations. That’s the most successful way of selling. Our software allows for this secondary experience. I have this visual backup about whatever I’m talking about.

Sramana Mitra: In delivering this experience, what does the platform allow you to do that is special?

Josh Koppel: It’s a web-based authoring environment that lets you build a fully engaging app with zero coding. In the past, to even think about building an app for your customer, you would have to have developers, designers, and a whole range of expertise that is out of the reach of everyone but major companies. We essentially let you do that in an interface that feels a lot like PowerPoint and lets you instantly create amazing stuff. Then, distribute it to anyone in your company by roles and permissions.

Sramana Mitra: Do you have to publish this through the AppStore?

Josh Koppel: That’s a great question and I’m glad you asked. The answer is no. There are none of the hoops of having to publish through the AppStore. You publish through an app called ScrollMotion. It’s a free app that you download from the AppStore. You put in your credentials and your app instantly shows up on your device.

Sramana Mitra: The ScrollMotion is an approved app in the AppStore and your clients are riding on top of that app.

Josh Koppel: That’s right. It also has analytics built in so you instantly understand every tap, every swipe, and every session link that is happening on the site — all without the need for any tagging. It’s really designed for people with basic marketing department type of skills. You can go and make incredible things.
