Thought Leaders in Cloud Computing: Kurt Heikkinen, CEO of Montage Talent (Part 1)

Posted on Monday, Mar 21st 2016

The recruiting approach in large companies that hire large numbers in a given year is changing. Read on, to learn how cloud and video are becoming central to the current trends.

Sramana Mitra: Let’s start by introducing our audience to yourself as well as to Montage.

Kurt Heikkinen: I’m the President and CEO of Montage. Personally, I have a few decades of experience in innovation inside of human capital management. Our company Montage is a leading provider of purpose-built video and voice interviewing technology that transforms the hiring process. We work with many large organizations to help them gain a hiring advantage using our solutions that are specifically tailored to support the complex requirements of recruiting and hiring.

Sramana Mitra: Let’s take a double-click down into your solution. Maybe pick up a good customer that really uses your product the way it’s designed to be used and walk us through what they do, how they do what they do, and tell us what trends you are seeing in the industry.

Kurt Heikkinen: The overall macro trend is we are living in a sustained period of human capital driven economy where candidates have more control and power than ever before. It really is the age of the candidate. Those candidates are seeking greater options and greater work flexibility. Our solutions help leading organisations, whether that’s a large enterprise like Disney or Samsung, or leading healthcare organisations, compete for talent in a way that matters most to tomorrow’s worker.

The legacy hiring process is one that is time-consuming and not very candidate-friendly. Those organizations that do not innovate in this area not only are losing out on the best talent, but it provides a negative impact to their bottomline. Let me give you a few examples. Walt Disney is one of our clients. You might be surprised to know that Disney came to us for hiring advantage in terms of elevating their employer brand and image.

You may be surprised by that because everybody looks at Disney and most folks view them as being a great place. Disney specifically started with us trying to attract software engineers. When you’re trying to attract software engineers, software engineers might typically look at Google, Intel, or Microsoft as a destination from a career standpoint. The software engineers weren’t thinking of Disney in that way.

Through the use of our solution starting with in-demand video interviewing and then live video interviewing, Disney was able to present an experience to those software engineers that really helped them to elevate their brand and specifically that employer’s value proposition for those software engineers, source candidates and attract them to Disney, and bring them through a more tech-savvy hiring process.
