Man and Superman: How Long Does Democracy Survive?

In order to give focus to some major changes she sees on the horizon, Sramana Mitra has written several pieces that grew out of her original article, Man and Superman: Human History Bifurcates. The basic principle of Democracy is rooted in Humanism. Every life is equally precious and worth preserving.

It seems though that with the Man and Superman bifurcation, this sense of equality is no longer sacrosanct.

If these two segments of the population need to work within the same social structure, with the assumption that each person has one vote, then Man can pretty much steamroll Superman’s interests.

Populist political candidates will do everything possible to protect Man’s interest, taking lavishly from Superman’s assets.

Whether it is infrastructure, universal healthcare, universal basic income – all of it would be funded by Superman.

But, Superman would have no say in politics. The numbers are in favor of Man.

I have a very hard time believing that Superman will accept this predicament.

In Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged, the “producers” went on strike. Atlas shrugged. One by one, they started disappearing into an off-the-grid valley in the Colorado mountains that Rand called Atlantis. Well, our ingenious Superman may escape to New Zealand or Mars, abandoning those countries and governments who try to mooch on their assets.

Already, we see Google and Apple outsmarting the US government and parking their profits in Ireland, avoiding taxes without violating any legal statutes.

French entrepreneurs have long fled their native country to avoid their government’s penchant for lavish taxation.

Expect to see extreme manifestations of this behavior if Superman breaks away from Humanism and decides that only Superman is worth preserving. Man is disposable.

So, if governments want Superman to continue supporting the survival of Man, then Democracy will need to go away. In exchange for financing non-producing human beings and their survival, Superman WILL negotiate power.

Can you argue that they shouldn’t?

And then, how long before Democracy is dead? A century? Two, at best?
