Thought Leaders in Healthcare IT: Bridge Connector CEO David Wenger (Part 2)

Sramana Mitra: Outside of Salesforce, what else is popular in your ecosystem?

David Wenger: We see a lot in the medical device space, durable medical equipment, home health & hospice, and post acute care.

We are into automating the entire process of admitting a patient as well as staying in touch with the patient after they leave or connecting cool devices into an EHR so that the patients that need to come back to an acute setting and are able to integrate. The facility knows exactly when that patient is going back and forth. We touch a large variety of healthcare. We have a big impact in the payer space.

Sramana Mitra: When you look at the integration space within healthcare, what are the open problems that you see out there?

David Wenger: It’s really looking at all the different silos of data in healthcare and finding a way to automate that. That’s an interesting area. Social determinants in health space is really interesting not only to us. Removing barriers to care is essential for any technology as well as for any individual patient in the United States.

Especially when the Baby Boomers continue to expand, the focus on helping them receive the care they deserve is essential. There’s a lot of good companies out there, but I don’t think anyone has truly mastered the real solution.

I know Lyft and Uber are doing some interesting things by removing barriers to transportation and really looking at how do we collectively, continue to find new ways to innovate and drive forward?

I was just at the HLTH conference last week. Some of the stuff I saw there were completely ground-breaking. There are a lot of really cool technologies coming out there that might not get the attention they deserve. I’m excited to see how those pop up. But one of the really good problems that you see a lot is interoperability.

It’s not just going to be Bridge Connector who will solve interoperability. It’s a collective effort amongst companies like Bridge Connector. If we can all find a way to work with EHRs and other digital health companies to create a common theme for how data is transferred back and forth, there will be a tremendous amount of success. That will help solve a lot of problems.

We’re also reducing the burden on doctors. If someone can come up with technology that can help doctors not only focus on treating patients but also deal with the business logistics of healthcare, I would say the number one thing is removing the burden on doctors so they can focus on treating patients.

Sramana Mitra: Thank you for your time.
