Sramana Mitra: Are you taking this use case and trying to sell this use case to other healthcare providers?

Vinay Samuel: Absolutely. Zetaris has been in the market for about seven years. It took us five years to build our technology. In every industry, there’s the top 10 killer use cases that we accelerate. As we find these projects, we are finding partners to take them to market. We look at a partner who’s strong in healthcare or telco and we’ll pass the IP over. We deal with all the big consulting firms. We got partnerships with SI’s [system integrators]. We identify which is the appropriate SI or consulting firm to take this use case forward.

Sramana Mitra: How many SI partnerships do you have?

Vinay Samuel: SI and consulting firms, it’s about 22 at the moment. Every week, we are getting more interest from different parts of the industry which is super exciting for us. The consulting and systems integrator world is starting to hear about it. They want to get involved because they want to take that to their customers.

Sramana Mitra: Does that equate to 20 to 25 use cases as well?

Vinay Samuel: We keep finding new use cases just about every day. Over the last few months, we hired a sales team across America. They’re talking to the industry and the consulting world. We cover about 22 industries with our automation. A lot of what we do is automated data management and automated information analysis through AI. AI covers about 22 industries. For every industry, there are about 10 to 15 use cases that we’ve documented and templated. It’s built into our solution. It comes as part of our license. We don’t put a premium on the IP as long as the customers are using the platform.

Sramana Mitra: In the process of doing this, whom do you see in deals as competitors?

Vinay Samuel: When we started seven years ago, there was an existing market called data virtualization. They were the vendors who would enable you to join two or three operational databases and create a report on those databases. What we saw was there was no vendor who could do deep analytics or could replace a data warehouse with a decentralized framework like ours.

We went out to do deep complex query analysis. We’ve built a specific query optimizer for data virtualization analytics. We have a heterogeneous, cost-based, rules-based, AI-based query optimizer. We’ve proven that it has a significant performance advantage over the existing competitors. We’ve done our benchmarks testing. So far, we’ve won all of the customer-facing benchmarks that customers have done.

Sramana Mitra: Interesting. Tell me about your company. You started in Australia?

Vinay Samuel: Yes. The story of the company is very much hooked into my journey. I started in Teradata back in the 90s as a data warehousing specialist. I was in sales for a while. I was a subject matter expert. I ended up becoming interested in parallel processing and massively parallel processing engines. Then I got involved in a number of startups where I was the VP of Asia for Netezza, Green Plum, and Vertica. I enjoyed learning a whole lot about the problems that customers faced when they were doing data warehousing.
