Sramana Mitra: Is it a product company or a services company?
Jay Chandan: It’s a mix. Today, about 60% of our revenue comes from product and about 40% from services.
Sramana Mitra: What’s in the product?
Jay Chandan: We’ve got a PaaS. The platform has three different products. You’ve got data capture for which we had the edge AI. We built a very solid technology platform. We’ve got our data capture, data security, and data analytics. On the data security side, we work very closely on network surveillance, open source intelligence, and threat detection.
More importantly, our process today is about security convergence. We talk about not just smart cities but also safe cities. Gorilla is about smart plus safe. The reason we talk about safe city is, every single customer we work with today has talked about how can you help me secure my digital and operational footprint?
How can you increase visibility into my network activity? How can you prevent any attacks against my network? If such an attack happens, how can you minimize the devastation and the damage?
Sramana Mitra: This model of doing a secure AI company aided by a platform in the bottom layer and then adding use cases on top is something we’re seeing. We’ve done several case studies like this in different domains. It’s good that you’re going to bring another perspective to this model with the smart city idea. Let’s go to the next level and talk about the use cases that you are addressing.
Jay Chandan: Our use cases are pretty broad. Let me give an example. The first one is, we protect an entire city with a little over 10,000 devices. We provide our network analyzer, network deterrence, and event managers. We help scan and prevent any attacks, any malicious intent, and we act as a deterrent. That is one case study.
The security operations analyzes events from various sources. It presents correlation between end point devices and provides predictive analytics so we can prevent such events from happening. That’s one type of a case study.
The second type could be where we use analytics. I’ll give you an example. There was a child murder in Australia. There were 21,000 plus hours of CCTV footage. We’re viewing this footage with a person for eight months. It yielded nothing. They turned to Gorilla. We processed 21,000 of those hours in less than four days. We were able to pinpoint and capture the culprit. We’re talking about very high accuracy.
Now we talk about security. We work with urban government agencies such as traffic enforcement. We work with, design, and integrate the traffic flow. Think about someone doing an illegal left turn, right turn, or beating the red light. We use our advanced video to identify traffic violations. We can catch traffic infractions in real time. We are increasing enforcement.
We are doing long-term traffic management patterns. When the government came to us, there were about 360 to 400 incidents a day in a single traffic junction. Through us, they were able to reduce that to three a day. The long-term goal is to decrease the number of infractions by 50% through better monitoring and better traffic.
