According to a recent report, the AI code tools market is projected to grow 23.2% annually to $30.1 billion by 2032 from $4.8 billion in 2024. The growth in the industry is being driven by the increasing adoption of DevOps practices and the need for efficient software development solutions. AI-driven coding tools are enhancing developer productivity and streamlining workflows, leading to higher adoption.
Bolt.new’s Offerings
San Francisco-based Bolt.new has emerged as a prominent player in this industry. Bolt.new, was founded in 2024 by Eric Simons and Albert Pai. The founders wanted to revolutionize web development by shifting it entirely to the browser, making coding more accessible and efficient. Prior to browser-based development environment, developers were working on complex and inefficient traditional local setups. They wanted to make coding more accessible and efficient by eliminating the need for these complex local configurations. They created StackBlitz, a browser-based AI-powered development environment that has been designed to simplify full-stack web application creation.
StackBlitz is powered by WebContainers, a WebAssembly-based OS that not only lets users generate the code but also allows them to run, edit, debug, and deploy applications entirely within their web browsers. The tool allows Bolt.new to offer a seamless, fast, and secure in-browser development experience.
Funding and Financials
Since its launch last year, Bolt.new has seen strong growth. It claims to have reached $4 million annual recurring revenue (ARR) within just four weeks of its launch. Bolt.new remains privately held and does not disclose its details financials. The company operates on a very lean model with reports suggesting an employee count of 20-25. It is one of the fastest growing AI organizations, attracting significant investor interest.
Bolt.new has raised $113 million in three rounds of funding so far from investors including Greylock, GV, Tom Preston-Werner, Emergence Capital, Madrona Venture Group, Mantis VC, and Conviction Capital. Its last funding round was held in January 2025 when it raised $105.5 million in a Series B funding round led by Emergence and GV (formerly Google Ventures), with participation from Madrona, Mantis (The Chainsmokers’ venture arm), and Conviction at an undisclosed valuation.
AI is a highly crowded marketplace right now with both tech giants and niche players trying to make their mark in the various segments of the market. Bolt.new is not the only player in the space. It competes with Microsoft-backed GitHub Copilot along with smaller players like Replit, VS Code, Codeium, and many more. Bolt.new has an edge amid others due to its unique browser-native approach.
