Thought Leaders in Cloud Computing: Evident.io CEO Tim Prendergast (Part 1)

Posted on Monday, Nov 27th 2017

Tim discusses cloud security challenges in this short conversation.

Sramana Mitra: Let’s start by introducing our audience to yourself as well as Evident.io.

Tim Prendergast: I’m a long-time information security practitioner and one of the early cloud computing adopters. My history goes way back to the early days of PGP encryption and more recently before I started Evident.io, I was one of the principal architects of Adobe.

My focus was on the cloud computing side of the house and transforming that company from someone who had user experiences for creatives that were based from single-CD install sets to cloud-enabled work loads and workflows for the creative professionals who nowadays work across our global economy.

Evident.io is the amalgamation of a lot of expertise we earned early on alongside our peers at Netflix, Amazon Web Services, and other cloud companies. It revolved specifically around the domain of protecting cloud workloads and the user’s identities and assets that you’ll store, and how you can demonstrate competency and compliance for those workloads and identities lik Board of Directors, internal team, or even regulators.

We spent a lot of time building out Adobe’s cloud infrastructure at a very successful clip. We and our peers from some of our fellow companies who had worked in this field decided we were going to solve this problem not only in our day-to-day roles but in a role where we could go back and help very big companies moving to the cloud. We also wanted to help small startups that don’t have sophisticated security teams or big security budgets to tackle the challenge of innovating very rapidly and building new capabilities for consumers and businesses alike and do so in a safe and meaningful way to eliminate common breaches with a very high associated cost.

The company is focused on automating security and compliance capabilities in the public cloud world for people using platforms like AWS, Azure, Google Cloud as well as continuing to scale that automated capability out beyond just a core platform in the long-term.
