Sramana Mitra: What is the volume of data related to healthcare plans that flows through a payer’s systems?

Mike Byers: Large payers process claims transactions of tens of terabytes of data per year. Analytics would be higher. By 2015, the waves of Medicare claims data will explode from 370 terabytes to 700 terabytes. For Medicaid, 30 terabytes of data will multiply to 100 terabytes, according to a CMS [Centers for Medicare and Medicaid] official.

SM: How have you achieved efficiencies aggregating this data?

MB: Plan data serves as the organizational structure underpinning claims data. HighRoads provides access to that organizing structure through a variety of access methods, thus enabling flexible approaches to payer data aggregation.
