Thought Leaders in Cloud Computing: Tidemark CEO Christian Gheorghe (Part 4)

Christian Gheorghe: Revolutions do not just happen within an institution. They are always due to outside influence because people demand better experiences with involvement, empowerment, and engagement. The same thing is seen in the enterprise space right now. In the past, you’d always go to IT for a better report, a different report or cube, which is no longer feasible. People at the edge of the organization are demanding experiences that are self-reliant, easy to use, and that do not require the same level of reliance on IT.  With this, they can get empowered to participate on the overall performance of the business.

We started with finance because this pain is mostly prevalent in the ability to plan, budget, and forecast your business. Business users require and demand better experiences and better ways to act on these analytics to where they can actually make a difference.

Sramana Mitra: That sounds great except that you do need to tie-in to all sorts of different systems. This is not a deployment that can happen without significant involvement from IT.

Christian Gheorghe: In the past, the whole process was IT dependent. Not only did you have to setup all these ties into data through IT but every time you needed to run a report that had to go through IT.

With Tidemark, the approach in the cloud is very different in that we have reversed that paradigm. We actually start with the type of questions business users are trying to solve. That then drives a dynamic way of understanding the most feasible and most applicable way to traverse the immense amount of data to get those answers. In doing so, IT is still involved but it’s involved in an enabler mode rather than command and control.

Sramana Mitra: So, what you were able to do through the cloud paradigm is tie the different data sources. You still need IT’s help but then you’re turning over the power to the business users to actually run the reports in real time and get data fast and quickly, right?

Christian Gheorghe: That is well put. I would only refine that by saying that the order of the process is also reversed. You don’t go to IT to get the data source and then revert to the business user for access. You enable and empower the business user throughout the question.

Sramana Mitra: Are you saying any kind of querying and reporting in real time is now possible without IT’s intervention? However, you still need to work with IT to setup these systems. Otherwise, where is the data going to come from?

Christian Gheorghe: I just wanted to make sure that you are clear that the business analytical applications I’m describing involves not only query and reporting, but also acting.
