Thought Leaders in Cloud Computing: Everbridge CEO Jaime Ellertson (Part 1)

Posted on Friday, Mar 25th 2016

If the Brussels attacks have made you wonder about alert systems and such, this discussion will shed some light.

Sramana Mitra: Let’s start by introducing our audience to yourself as well as to Everbridge.

Jaime Ellertson: I’m the Chairman and CEO of Everbridge. Everbridge is a provider of enterprise SaaS applications that automate information exchange to keep people safe and business running. It is a fast-growing provider of enterprise SaaS applications that automate information exchange to keep people safe and businesses running.

The markets that we participate in are everything from emergency notification, which would be sending out communications like recently in Brussels, to communications and information exchange around IT outages. It could also be a connected hospitals – code alerts and telemedicine – or large community events like the Super Bowl or the papal visit. We support all of those by automating core processes around information exchange and making sure that people get the right information at the right place and the right time.

Sramana Mitra: What customer base are you catering to?

Jaime Ellertson: As I had just mentioned, we focus on a number of verticals. In the public and government sector, we focus on major cities and states. Today, seven out of the top 10 largest US cities use us to communicate with citizens. There the communication is critical because they’re communicating typically to large volumes like when there is a significant weather event or a significant anomaly.

Another is healthcare where you have a lot of people involved in critical activities like the dizzying array of the Internet of Things devices. It could be everything from code alert or it could be to a group of nurses to properly staff and restaff, all the way to telemedicine. Another big vertical market for us is the corporate space. It could be communicating to an increasingly distributed workforce that isn’t necessarily in an office. It would most probably be you and me who travel extensively.

Sramana Mitra: Where is the bulk of your business? Am I reading it right that in this emergency communication is your primary market?

Jaime Ellertson: Of those, among the three markets – healthcare, corporate space, and public markets – the corporate business is our largest market segment. It’s over a third of our business. The other two are roughly 25%. All are growing at a very strong clip because the primary market drivers below this are not changing. As you can imagine, the fundamentals in the market are that we are becoming a more distributed world and probably a lot more connected to technology and people. There is a certain amount of information for safety.

There’s another category for us that drives our business which is the complexity and the distributed mobile nature of today’s world. Both of those are driving those businesses very well but they roughly break out to be 25% in healthcare, 25% in state public sector, more than a third in corporate.
