We’re doing a deep dive into the current seed investment eco-system and talking to our investor friends about what they’re looking for.
Here, you can hear the perspective of Ashmeet Sidana of Engineering Capital:
Come talk to me to brainstorm, strategize, weigh your funding options.
Once upon a time, there used to be Seed and Series A as financing options for startups. Now, we have pre-seed, seed, pre-Series A, and THEN Series A. And the Series A can often be a small $1-3 Million round, which typically comes from small venture firms. The bigger, more traditional firms have moved upstream, raising bigger and bigger funds. They can only do $5-10M Series A rounds, which often have the characteristics of Series B.
If you are a startup entrepreneur looking for help navigating the myriad stages of seed investing, please have a listen to the following 30-minute podcast interviews with some of today’s most respected Seed Investors.
Cindy Padnos, Founder and Managing Partner at Illuminate Ventures, discusses a topic that we’ve been highlighting recently: the need for multiple seed rounds as a way to bridge the Series A gap.

OLB Tech
As for the pitches, first up, we had Miguel Ortiz and
Amarilis Ortiz from Atlanta, Georgia, pitching OLB Tech. This team has a nailpolish dispenser that applies and dries polish rapidly. Looks to me like a perfect Kickstarter campaign!
iCustomMadeIt
Next, 1Mby1M premium member Raj Iyer pitched iCustomMadeIt, a 2-sided marketplace for custom merchandise. We went over Raj’s investor pitch, and how to revise it. The company already has revenue and a significant channel partner through 1Mby1M.
There are shifts happening in the world of seed investing. Some questions are emerging:
How do you process the current investment climate where capital is moving further and further upstream? How does an angel investor (or an entrepreneur, for that matter) mitigate the Series A gap? How do you parse Unicorn mania? As an angel investor, you could get buried under later stage liquidation preferences. How do you protect yourself?
Venktesh Shukla, founder of TiE Angels and General Partner Monta Vista Capital, discusses some shifts happening in the world of seed investing.
