Sramana Mitra: When I look at the current landscape and the foreseeable future, this is going to be an issue. I would like to know if there are non-vaccinated people around me if I am in a public setting. Vaccinated people are not at risk from non-vaccinated people. That might not be entirely true because the variants are not clear yet. This is a hairy issue. It’s a controversial issue. I am in favor of giving up some privacy to be much safer.
Guillermo Diaz: That is what we are seeing. Let me give a scenario in what we call the Kloud hybrid platform. Today, I am in my office. I went in and checked in. I could see the whole map of our building. I could see which desks are open. By the way, you can only see every other desk. That is the way we designed it. When I check out that desk, it will now apply that to me.
>>>Sramana Mitra: You haven’t talked about healthcare vertical use cases. Are you in healthcare and clinical studies?
Guillermo Diaz: Yes. We are working closely with a healthcare organization in Colorado. They are trying to do similar things, but we are also working with them on the connectivity into image readers. This means being able to do Zoom rooms on the fly whether I am at the hospital or home. They are working on this hybrid experience for the hospitals.
>>>Sramana Mitra: So far, I’ve asked you technology questions and use case questions. I am going to ask you more business and policy questions now. What is the penetration? Do you have other large customers who are doing this?
Guillermo Diaz: We have companies like Freedom Financial in the financial space. We are going to roll out to the World Expo in Dubai, a world fair that happens every five years. It was supposed to happen in 2020. What they are doing at the World Expo is exactly the use case I described. When someone comes in, especially as the issues around wellness are in focus, they need a badge to get into the expo.
>>>Sramana Mitra: You are helping manage acceptable levels of social distancing by tracking people’s movements and actions within the office?
Guillermo Diaz: Yes. Within the office, we are able to look at social distancing and the population demographics. We can determine how many people are in a location and how many are supposed to be in there. We are also looking at automatic mass detection of the appropriate PPE or masks.
>>>Guillermo takes us through IoT use cases in workplace safety in the changing post-Covid world.
Sramana Mitra: Let’s start by introducing our audience to yourself as well Kloudspot.
Guillermo Diaz: I am the CEO of Kloudspot. We call ourselves a situational awareness and intelligence platform that is designed to understand and ingest large amounts of data from IoT sensors. We convert them through our platform into contextualization about people and assets. We provide awareness and predictive actions in an automated fashion. We take action on those predictions to ultimately drive the outcomes of safe and engaging experiences.
>>>Sramana Mitra: We have recently covered a company called Tuya. Are you familiar with them?
Sanjay Brahmawar: I haven’t worked with them directly, but I heard a bit about them. Maybe you can tell me a bit about what they have done or their coverage.
Sramana Mitra: They just went public. I discovered them in my cloud stock series newsletter. They are positioning as an IoT platform. They are the first Chinese software company to have made it. Chinese software companies have not made it big. They have had great e-commerce successes but not software. This is the first company that I have seen that I found quite exciting. They are following this IoT as a service strategy. You may want to take a look.
>>>Sramana Mitra: I didn’t hear you say anything about independent software vendors building on top of your platform.
Sanjay Brahmawar: I should have mentioned that. We do have a whole ecosystem of ISVs that take the platform capabilities and build their solutions on it. These could be people focusing on specific manufacturing applications or things like overall equipment efficiency. We also offer some of those apps, but there are a lot of these companies that build on top of Cumulocity and web methods.
>>>Sanjay Brahmawar: In terms of the competitive landscape, we would say that one of our prime competitors is PTC. We also have a great relationship with the hyperscalers. Sometimes we do compete with them, but more often we are collaborating for joint solutions to our clients. We offer the IoT layer and the hybrid integration layer; and our hyperscaler partners offer capabilities like Azure data lake and SQL.
